wikispaces

I was wondering how to set up a blog for a group of about 10 pupils to blog their thoughts about different aspects of a lesson. i’ve learnt that it’s easier to create a wikispace where members will have to be invited before they can post their ideas. i did a trail with the consultants but it wasn’t easy to navigate your way about the page. Anybody got any brilliant ideas. Judy i’m waiting for some easy way out…

I thin k you have to promote the wiki and entice people to it, like a spider!

If you want to survey them then use Survey Monkey. If you want them to comment on ideas then use a blog … I can suggest a format. A wiki has a different purpose but could be used but I feel a blog would be most appropriate. If you want the students to post ideas then you will need their email addresses and need to teach them about blogging safely. Please contact me a t CLC next week.

The circumstances where a wiki might be better than a blog is collaborating on a non-public group project; students are often tentative about committing their ideas to print, to the point where they might be put off altogether if they knew the whole world-wide-web could read it.

A managed learning environment such as Fronter should facilitate this sort of non-public group collaboration more straightforwardly than using a free wiki. Let’s hope so.
